De database Zorg Kiezen biedt zorgprofessionals, patiënten en naasten actuele informatie over palliatieve zorgvoorzieningen in Nederland. Op verschillende sites zijn overzichten te vinden of kan gezocht worden in een straal rond een woonplaats of postcode met hulp van Google Maps. Zorg Kiezen bevast informatie over bijna 600 palliatieve zorgmogelijkheden.

De poster is op 8 mei 2009 gepresenteerd tijdens het congres 'Committed to People' van de EAPC (European Association of Palliative Care).

Abstract - Finding the right information about palliative care services

The database ‘Zorg Kiezen’ (pick and choose care) offers accurate and current information about palliative care services in the Netherlands. In Netherlands the institutions that provide palliative
care work together in regional palliative care networks. A best practice website of one of these networks is used to develop a design for a regional website. Networks start a website with this design and supplement it with their own (regional) information about palliative care. Information about palliative care services is an important part of the regional site. For this purpose the national database ‘Zorg Kiezen’ is developed. On established lines information about palliative care services is saved in the database and published on the regional site and several national sites (for example http://zorgkiezen.palliatief.nl). Through Google Maps visitors can search services in the national database in a specific area around a given place.
At this moment 66 of the 70 palliative care networks in the Netherlands (almost 95 %) participate in this system of regional sites and database ‘Zorg Kiezen’ and actualize on a regular base information about palliative care.
The database contains data about more than 500 palliative care services, such as inpatient palliative care units, hospices and home care teams. Details of the services such as the professionals working in the service, the care provided, number of beds, etc. are saved in about 75 fields of the database.
All this means that caregivers, patients and family can refer to accurate and current information about palliative care in the Netherlands through the database ‘Zorg Kiezen’ and the regional sites of palliative care networks. The database is appropriate for further research.
