A two-day educational opportunity for healthcare professionals interested in serving in developing countries.
Upon completion of this course, an attendee will be able to:
- Explain how to adapt the principles and practices of hospice and palliative care in developing countries.
- Summarize the WHO pain management protocol.
- Discuss myths associated with the use of morphine in pain management.
- Distinguish and manage pain symptoms, identify and treat side effects of opioid administration.
- Recognize complexity and magnitude of treating HIV/AIDS. Describe issues in patients suffering from TB, dysentery and malnutrition.
- Compare and contrast how different cultures view death and dying.
- Integrate new appreciation of these cultural factors in the deliverance of health care.
- Identify factors influencing the provision of care access, infrastructure, and rural versus urban populations.
